Composition & Piano Lessons
I am very excited that you visited this page where I explain about the lessons I offer to prospective students in search of composition or piano lessons or perhaps a combination of both.
As a composer and a pianist I teach both subjects to students at the Q-Factory in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
I hold a Masters in Music degree from the Conservatory of Amsterdam and have been teaching for years both privately as well as a piano teacher at the Muziekschool Badhoevedorp and The Piano Academy in Amsterdam.
I teach lessons in the Dutch or English language and students are taught from either an acoustic grand piano or upright piano depending on the preference.
Eventhough I am classicaly trained, students can also choose to learn other styles with me and I will make a personal lessons package for each student individually according to their wishes.
In my lesson practice I do have a strict requirement that I ask of my students which is that the student maintains a regular practice schedule in between lessons. That way the best results and the fastest development are assured. Every couple of months or so I will hold an evaluation whether the above requirement is adhered to and if I conclude that this is not the case, I reserve the right to end the lessons.
Furthermore, I mainly teach adult students from the age of 16 and above. Younger students may apply as well but this will be considered on request.
Below are the descriptions of the three types of lessons that I teach and I hope that I'll become your new teacher to further your development in music.

Piano
As a pianist myself I teach all ages and all skill levels. The student can choose what kind of music he/she wishes to learn whether it's classical, pop, jazz etc. The lessons will focus not only on the playing aspect but will also incorporate theory to further the knowledge of music. When a student is a complete beginner, it is my advice that we start with a classical method of teaching the piano which incorporates the use of a method book. This way the student already starts playing music from the beginning and will also simultaneously learn to read notes. When a student already has some experience we can easily continue from the level that he/she is currently at.

Composition and Piano
These lessons will focus on writing your own piano compositions as well as being able to perform them yourself. I will teach you about musical form and structure, melody, harmony, notation and other essential theoretical knowledge. We will incorporate regular piano lessons in which you'll learn the necessary skills of playing the piano and there is no limit to the style in which you wish to compose your next masterpiece! It is advisable that the student wishing to take these combined lessons already has a bit of experience with playing the piano. This doesn't particularly mean the ability to read notes but rather having a sense for playing the keys on the piano.

Composition
In these lessons the focus will be completely on teaching the student how to compose his/her own music. The music will incorporate advanced skills like score reading, analysis and structure of music, theory, orchestration and much more. These are the only lessons that are mainly focused on the writing of (contemporary) classical music or the writing of film music and require the student to already have a basic knowledge of music and the ability to read notes. In the case that a student wishes to focus on writing film music it is required that the student brings his/her own computer and has some knowledge of the DAW software that he/she chooses to use.
